Educational system at UTP

In 2007 the UTP introduced Bologna System of studying. The undergraduate studies lasting three or four years leads to the Bachelor of Science degree.

Undergraduates can choose from among 23 fields of study at two types of studies, full-time and part-time. The first level of study lasts 3 or 3,5 years depends on a course chosen by student.

This first stage can be followed by the second one, which leads to a Master degree after 1.5 or 2 years of studies.

Then one can go on to the third stage of the programme, in which the completion of another four years followed by personal research and leads to a PhD thesis and degree.

The UTP offers also non-degree postgraduate courses at part-time system, lasting 1 or 1,5 year, which give new skills confirmed by an appropriate certificate.

ECTS

The ECTS  was implemented in order to make the cooperation between European universities easier, in regard to the full recognition of students' achievements outside their mother university. The system is based on points and marks specifying the student workload required to get credits for given subjects. It also makes it possible to interpret the principles of higher education abroad. The UTP applies the ECTS at all courses.

The following grading system is used for exams and tests at UTP and how it refers to ECTS:

Local definition                        Local grade           ECTS Grade
excellent +                                     6.0                              A+
excellent                                        5.0                              A
very good                                       4.5                              B
good                                               4.0                             C
satisfactory                                      3.5                             D
sufficient                                         3.0                              E
unsatisfactory (fail)                          2.0                              F

The ECTS grades have the following interpretation:

A+ -  extraordinary knowledge with additional value
A   -  excellent - outstanding performance with only minor errors,
 -  very good - above the average standard but with some mistakes,
C   -  good - generally sound work with a number of notable mistakes,
 -  satisfactory  -  acceptable but with significant mistakes and lack of knowledge,
 -  sufficient - work and results fulfil minimum criteria,
F   -  fail - credits can be awarded when the student takes the course again.

Receiving an unsatisfactory grade means failure to complete the course. All grades are recorded in undergraduates´ transcripts, evaluation cards and reports.
